Trinity blunt power play of Thomians

Trinity College pulled off a hard-fought 20-13 win over S. Thomas’ College in their inter-school league rugby match at the Pallekele ground in Kandy yesterday.

The home side got their points from two goals and two penalties while the visitors replied with a goal and two penalties.

Trinity skipper Lithmal Moragoda was the proud recipient of the Canon R.S de Saram Shield from the chief guest former Trinity College ruggerite Bimal Fernando.

The Thomians opened scoring in the opening minutes of the game when their goal kicker fired across a penalty.

Thereafter the Trinitians dominated the game leading 17-6 at half time. Trinity’s tries were scored by skipper Lithmal Moragoda and Kovid Wickremasinghe with the latter adding the extra points and also converting the penalties.

Chariya Kulakulasooriya scored the try for S. Thomas’ with Jonathan Bulathsinhala converting.

Delum Deeshana refereed the match.

Trinity also won the under 15 match 15-0 while S. Thomas’ won the under 18 match for the N.S. Walter trophy 20-5.
