Confidence of youth on the decline - Imtiaz Bakir Makar

9 July, 2022

SJB Parliamentarian Imtiaz Bakir Makar told Parliament on Wednesday that the confidence of the educated youth in the democratic institutions including the Parliament has faded.

He said this while presenting the amended bill to Parliament on providing a minimum representation of 25 percent for the youth at election nominations.

He said that due to lack of proper space to raise their voices and participate in the decision-making of the country’s future, the country will fall into a dangerous situation again.

Bakir Makar said that there should be a fair percentage of youth representation in Parliament, Provincial Councils and Provincial Government Institutions, and that he would make this request from all the political movements represented in Parliament.

He said that democratic reforms must also take place in political parties, otherwise it is inevitable that these political parties will fall under the monopoly of the elite and capitalist groups.

“If there is no space for the voice of the youth where decisions are made about the future, then our country will be further pushed into a dangerous abyss,” said Bakir Makar.

In this council, the youth must also have some space. Compared to the population of our country, the representation of the youth is not even 5 percent. There is no space for youth representation in this Parliament. By presenting these three proposals, I request all the party leaders represented in Parliament to give your strict and serious attention to this. “Everything will not be solved through this proposal, but democratic reforms should also take place in political parties,” Bakir Markar said.
