Except GL, no change in Cabinet

23 July, 2022

There was no change in Cabinet Ministers’ portfolios except that of Foreign Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris.

The swearing in of the new Cabinet of Ministers of the interim Government under President Ranil Wickremesinghe took place at Temple Trees on Friday.

President Wickremesinghe has decided to continue the interim Government with the same Cabinet Ministers of his predecessor who stepped down last week. The ministers have been assigned the portfolios they were serving prior to the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

However, SLPP Parliamentarian Ali Sabry, PC who was the Justice Minister and Finance Minister under Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s administration, has been given the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which was previously held by SLPP chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris.

Following the Sri Lanka Podu Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam’s announcement that the SLPP would support Ranil Wickremesinghe’s candidacy at the special vote held in Parliament to elect a new President on Wednesday, Prof. G.L. Peiris had declared that the SLPP should support SLPP MP Dullas Alahapperuma’s candidacy and not a candidate of another party.
