The Start Network partnered CARITAS SED Galle to provided relief equipment valued at two million rupees to the Disaster Management Unit of the Akuressa Divisional Secretariat recently.

Flooding is a common occurrence in Akuressa and a large number of people are rendered homeless and compelled to seek relief from the Divisional Secretary and Disaster management unit.

Start Network is an international non Government organisation whose vision is to create a proactive, innovative and locally owned humanitarian system that enables the delivery of better quality humanitarian aid, maintains the dignity of people caught up in disasters, and saves more lives and livelihoods It also provides financial infrastructure that offers timely, efficient and predictable funding to support at-risk populations by empowering members with the resources to act effectively and efficiently.

CARITAS Sri Lanka is a member of the Start Network. The equipment was handed over to Divisional Secretary Akuressa K. G. D. Anoja by Rev. Fr. Lasantha Sanjeewa Director of CARITAS SED Galle. Assistant Divisional Secretary Akuressa S. G. Y. Aravinda, U. G. Sampath and M. M. Chaturanga of the Disaster Management Unit in Akuressa and Project Officers of the Start Network Chandima Pereira and Nayanthara Fernando were also present.
