ASLCSCC flays Pelosi Taiwan visit

7 August, 2022

The Association for Sri Lanka-China Social and Cultural cooperation (ASLCSCC), a leading people to people friendship with China organisation in South Asia, highly opposed and condemned the visit of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi to China’s Taiwan region.

We believe the move is a provocation against the Chinese side, which not only gravely violates the UN Charter and related UN agreements as well as the one-China principle widely recognised and accepted by the international community, but also undermines regional peace and stability.

What the world needs today is peace. Social and economic development is built through a peaceful world. Such unacceptable actions of United States can lead to more crises and disputes.

We would like to see China-US relations improve in all areas, including economy, trade, culture, people to people friendship and mutual understanding. But there is no doubt that such unethical activities will be an obstacle for the betterment of China-US relations.

ASLCSCC thinks that the US should continuously advance their cooperation to find new opportunities for opening up a new diplomatic environment between the two countries without making unnecessary trouble.

ASLCSCC firmly supports the position of the Chinese Government and people in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and China’s early reunification.

Indrananda Abeysekera President - ASLCSCC
