During the golden era of the Old Bens HA, Joseph Charles as the left back was like the ‘Rock of Gibraltar’ which paved the way for their half line to relentlessly attack.
He represented the Colombo HA at the National Championships from 1964 to 1967 and 1970; captaining in 1971. In 1967 and 1971, they were joint champions.
