The Ministry of Education will provide free school textbooks for students of Government schools countrywide for the year 2023.
The Government has allocated Rs. 16,483 million for the purpose. Cabinet approval has been granted to print 45 percent of the textbooks by the State Printing Corporation. Fifty-five percent of the textbooks will be printed by the private sector, Kurunegala District Senior Director of Education, W.M. Balasooriya said. Balasooriya told a meeting of school heads of the Kurunegala district at the Kurunegala Provincial Education Office on Friday that Education Minister Susil Premayantha has instructed Ministry officials to expedite the printing of the text books for students prior to the commencement of the next school year - 2023.”
