Malay CC only unbeaten team in Governor’s Trophy

Colombo Malay Cricket Club (CMCC) finished on top of the points table with 48 points and an unbeaten record in the Governor’s Trophy cricket tournament that has reached the semi-final stage.

In their final league encounter, Malay CC beat United Southern to remain the only unbeaten team. Nimal Umesh was named man of the match having scored an unbeaten 36 and capturing three wickets for 24 runs.

CMCC played 11 matches and won ten while there was no result in one encounter in Group A. United Southern SC were the runners-up with 42 points. Old Dharmapalians SC finished on top in group B with 44 points having played eleven matches winning nine of them, losing one and one ended in a no result.

Leo CC were the runners-up with 41 points having won eight and losing two from eleven outings.

Malay CC will play Leo CC in the semi-final on Monday (26) at Dombagoda International ground (Army ground), while Old Dharmapalians will play against United Southern CC at Bloomfield ground Reid Avenue on the same day.

Madushanka Sandaruwan is the highest wicket taker of the tournament so far claiming 33 wickets. (TBR)
