The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the University of Rajarata, Sri Lanka (RUSL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve financial literacy among undergraduates.

The collaboration plans to promote capital market education among undergraduates by working together on a number of mutually beneficial strategic initiatives. The initiative would offer practical educational training and internship opportunities for students in accountancy and finance, business management, and economics related degree programs with the CSE.

Under the MoU, the CSE will grant an award to the student who obtains the highest value in the Grade Point Average (GPA) in the Financial Management Specialisation Program.

RUSL will also collaborate with the ongoing educational initiatives of the CSE, Advanced Diploma in Financial Markets (ADFM) andin future educational activities, by providing the expertise and resource persons to the seminars and workshops organised by the CSE to investors around the country in promoting capital market investments.

CEO of the CSE, Rajeeva Bandaranaike said, “It is crucial to promote financial literacy among Sri Lankans, especially among undergraduates, who are a key segment of the population equipped to contribute to an economically stable future. We are glad to partner with RUSL to promote a financially literate undergraduate population for the sustainable growth of the economy.”

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajarata said, “The present-day challenges can only be solved through strategic alliances. This MoU can be identified as a strategic alliance that promotes collaborative research projects, capacity development of undergraduates, and promotes stock market education within the University community”.

“Entrepreneurs can also be created among the undergrads by broadening their horizons and we are confident that CSE will provide many learning and training opportunities for Rajarata University undergraduates.”
