SLCB conducts educational sessions for MICE sector

The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) conducted educational sessions for the MICE tourism industry recently.

The SLCB is the premier tourism entity promoting international Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) in Sri Lanka. They organised the training program for the MICE sector to educate them on the trends, demands, and opportunities. The event was held at the BMICH.

Among the 50 participants were representatives of local professional conference organisers, professional exhibition organisers, professional event management companies, and hoteliers.

Their objective was to update themselves about the impact of the MICE sector on the tourism industry, Sustainable Unique Selling Propositions (USPs), enhancing partnerships with hotels, and revenue management.

A SriLankan Airlines representative outlined its membership in Oneworld Airline Alliance and the national carrier’s connectivity with 126 destinations in 61 countries open up endless prospects impacting MICE tourism.

SriLankan connects daily with India, opening up opportunities with their business travel market ranked among the top ten globally. A 6.5 million Outbound Luxury MICE and a huge wedding market await Sri Lanka, and our MICE sector needs to attract and draw a substantial market share by selling our attractive venues and connectivity choices.

To impact the development of MICE Tourism, SriLankan Airlines offers a host of air travel incentives for the MICE Tourism sector extending from the planning stage to promotions and publicity, airport facilitation, in-flight services, and special air fares, to benefit, promote and grow the MICE industry.

The five-member panel at the educational event comprised former GM SLCB/Acting Director General SLTDA, and academic Dr. Vipula Wanigasekera, entrepreneur, educator, consultant Business Psychology, Dr. Shafaath Amidon, MD of B Connected (Pvt) Ltd. Mrs. Felicia Adihetty, General Manager, Conventions and Exhibitions, Aitken Spence Travels, Ziyan Ameen and Sales Manager, Inbound, SriLankan Airlines, Asela Ambepitiya.
