Advantages of learning other languages

2 October, 2022

There are many languages in the modern world. In today’s increasingly inter connected and interdependent world, proficiency in other languages is vital. It gives you the opportunity to engage with the world in a more meaningful way, whether in your neighbourhood or thousands of miles away.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the human experience is our ability to connect with others. When meeting people socially, being able to communicate with them in their language is an incredible gift. Knowing the language of the place you are at, makes you a local no matter where you are. For this reason, you will be able to maintain friendly human ties.

Knowing other languages is important when travelling too, especially when you travel to foreign countries. Being able to say at least ‘hello’ or ‘thank you’ in the language of that country is good for you. You will be able to travel more efficiently and effectively.

Learning another language will keep your brain healthy, even in your old age. This fact is absolutely correct as learning other languages requires memorising grammatical rules and vocabulary, subsequently strengthening the brain’s memory muscle.

Recent scientific studies reveal that people who are multi-lingual live longer as their brains age slowly.

Children should learn at least one language in addition to their mother tongue. Learning other languages will enhance your problem solving skills and you will be able to think more creatively.

Therefore, children who are bilingual or multi-lingual will be able to succeed in their academic work.

Learning other languages will advance your career as well. Employees who know other languages will be able to communicate efficiently with their customers. They will get new job opportunities and will be paid higher salaries. They will increase their chances of getting hired.

Learning other languages is important to live effectively and build cordial relationships with others in the modern world.
