The 47th National Games were successfully concluded in the Gampaha district with the participation of cycling, race walking and marathon races.

The Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry and the Sports and Development Department jointly organized the 47th National Sports Tournament with the sponsorship of Nestlé Lanka Company Limited.

All competitions saw leading athletes from all over the country taking part that eventually saw close finishes particularly in the cycling races. The Walking race for women saw competitors from 19 districts taking part in the 20 kilometres race. This race was won by Kalhari Madrimaka from the Western Province in a time of one hour, 58 minutes and 67 seconds.

Interestingly the men’s walking race saw participants from 37 districts qualify. The race was won by RD Rukmal from Uva province in a time of 1 hour, 34 minutes and 08 seconds.

Walking (Women)

Winner: Kalhari Madrimaka (Western) 1:48m 67 prize money Rs. 50,000/-

2nd place: Dinusha Dilhani (Southern) 1:53m 46 prize money Rs. 40,000/-

3rd place: PB Gayani (Southern) 1: 57m 39 prize money Rs. 30,000/-
4th place: W.H.L. Kalyani (Southern) 1: 59m 22 prize money Rs.20,000/-
5th place: K.M.C. Damayanthi (Uva) 2:04m 27 prize money Rs. 18,000/-

Walking (Men)

Number of teams represented - 37 Districts - 20km

Winner: R.D. Rukmal (Uva) 1:34m 08 prize money Rs. 50,000/-

2nd Place: HMS Ravindra Herat (North Central) 1: 35m 51 prize money Rs. 40,000/-
3rd Place: Sadun Lakmal (North West) 1: 36m 52 prize money Rs. 30,000/-

4th Place: YS Wimalasuriya (Southern) 1: 40m 58 prize money Rs.20,000/-
