6 November, 2022

A sports university will be a reality soon and Sri Lanka’s youth will then be able to excel in sports as well as in studies when this institute is started at the Diyagama Sports Complex.

This ambitious remark was made by Roshan Ranasinghe the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs when he addressed the gathering at the media briefing to announce the countdown to the Middle East Crown, the professional boxing tournament that will be held for the first time in Sri Lanka.

“After including sports subjects in the high school curriculum, our children will be able to balance both sports and education. After that, it is more valuable to be able to complete the degree in the sports department while coming to the Diyagama Sports University, which is to be started,” said the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe.

He also added that the Sports Associations have the responsibility to treat their athletes equally and help them develop their skills. Every association should also endeavour to organize sports events with foreign participants so that Sri Lanka will be able bring in foreign exchange.

“We have wonderful beaches so we must try our best to organize world famous beach sports tournaments like beach games and surfing events to attract tourists,” added Ranasinghe.

Sri Lanka boxers will be introduced to professional boxing soon for the first time when the Middle East Crown Series 5 begins on November 26 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

This is being organized by DLMC events Dubai, an organization in the UAE with a great vision to produce world-class events with proven strategies.

The event is organized by Dunstan Rosairo, Chairman of DJMC events Dubai who has been organizing such events in Dubai for the past several years.

Boxers from 14 countries such as the USA, India, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Ukraine, Pakistan, Philippines and Ghana are scheduled to participate in Sri Lanka. There will be a total of 18 international boxers and two world champion female boxers in the ring.
