Creating history in the Sri Lanka shipping sector, a Christmas cake mixing ceremony was held on board a Sri Lankan Naval vessel docked at the Hambantota International Port. This is the first time a cake mixing ceremony was held on a ship at a commercial port. It was facilitated by the Shangri-La Hotel, Hambantota.

The Christmas cake, which is complex and unique in its making, is an age-old tradition.

“The coming together of the HIPG and the Sri Lankan Navy to host the event is significant as Sri Lanka positions itself to receive record numbers of tourists this year for the winter season. We are proud to be a part of this endeavour,” said CEO, HIPG, Johnson Liu.

“Hambantota Port is expecting two cruise ships which will call at the port during the season and over 2,000 passengers are expected to disembark. This will be a great boost for the tourist economy of the southern part of the country,” he said.

HIP works in collaboration with multiple companies including those in the tourism sector to promote local industry and business, especially in the southern region.

CEO Johnson Liu, CFO Raymond Mu, CEO of HIPS, Ravi Jayawickreme and Chief Strategic Officer Greg Chen, officials of Shangri-La Hambantota and the Navy were present.
