Colombo South’s budding cricketers savour early Christmas

Colombo South clinched the Prima U-15 Youth League when they beat Colombo North in the final by three wickets at the Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) ground on Tuesday (29).

Electing to bat first, Colombo North could score only 148 runs in 50 overs.

In reply Colombo South scored 151 for 7 wickets in 46 overs.

At one stage North were reeling on 51 for six with bowlers Rashan Nawanjana and Tenusha Yapa running through the top order.

Thereafter, Rachintha de Silva and Osanda Pamuditha batted with caution and aggression to get them past the hundred run mark. De Silva top scored with 45 while Pamuditha made a valuable contribution of 35 runs.

Colombo South too started shakily having lost three wickets for just 35 runs. Then opener Hiruka Silva was joined by Thevindu Wewalwala to put on a 57 runs partnership for the fifth wicket that saw them recover. Silva top scored with 61 runs off 100 deliveries. However, they limped over the line in the 46th over.
