Hasaranga’s disciplinary record takes a hit

4 December, 2022

Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva has been handed an official reprimand for showing dissent at an umpiring decision during Sri Lanka’s third and final ODI against Afghanistan at the Pallekele Stadium last Wednesday.

He has also been given a demerit point which if snowballs to four demerits points within a two-year period can bring him a one-Test ban or a two-match ban from ODIs or T20Is whichever comes first.

Hasaranga committed his offence by pointing to the giant screen when the TV umpire overturned a leg-before decision on review after Afghanistan batsman Najimulla Zadran was ruled out by the on-field umpire.

Hasaranga admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
