No increase in respiratory patient admissions in hospitals

11 December, 2022

Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena told the Sunday Observer that they expect the Air Quality in Sri Lanka to improve in about two days.

“We ask the public to stay inside whenever possible, wear a face mask when they go to work or for visits outside of the home, and avoid engaging in strenuous physical activity outside of their homes as much as possible until the polluted air dissipates from the country’s air space,” he said. When we asked him if the number of patients visiting the national hospitals with respiratory complaints and complications had increased due to their exposure to air pollution, he said there was no such situation.

“We expect the strong winds and rains will carry away the smog without causing any respiratory trouble for the public,” he said.
