The majority of public servants who allegedly solicited bribes this year are in the education sector. According to the Bribery Commission, 212 public servants in the education sector including education officers, school heads and sectional school heads are among the suspects.
Around 161 police officers came second in soliciting bribes from the public. In third place was Divisional Secretariat offices.
Eight Grama Niladharies had been nabbed by investigators of the Bribery Commission, a senior official of the Bribery Commission P.M. Jayamaha told the Sunday Observer.
