The Cabinet has approved a proposal by President Ranil Wickremesinghe that all state lands should be set aside under the guidance of Divisional Secretaries (DSs) countrywide. The sole authority of lands belonging to the Mahaweli Development Authority (MDA) is the Director General of the MDA.
The authority of setting aside state lands belonging to the Land Reform Commission (LRC) is with the LRC.
All state lands including lands belonging to these two Government institutions, the MDA and LRC should be delegated with the consent of the Divisional Secretaries.
A committee will be appointed under the chairmanship of a Senior Additional Secretary to the President to draw up a code of rules in this connection.
