Seven people were died and several others, including a number of students, sustained injuries following an accident in the Radella area on the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya Main Road on Friday( January 20) evening.
A bus carrying students from Thurstan College on a trip crashed into a van and a three-wheeler plunging down a 100 foot precipice.
Some 53 passengers – including teachers, parents and 41 Grade 11 students– were inside the bus.
According to Police, the seven people died were occupants of the van and the three-wheel driver.
Local witnesses say the bus driver had ignored road signs.
Meanwhile, authorities have shut down the Radella Shortcut Road in Nuwara Eliya for heavy vehicles until further notice.
The Nuwara Eliya Police Traffic Division is carrying further investigations.
