Havens of love and care

29 January, 2023

Forty years ago today, the Marcsri main home was started by foundress the late Rita Perera on January 29, 1983.

What was started as a home for the differently-abled community and the elderly has now grown into a network of havens of love and care for them. Accommodation, food and clothing, medication, education and everything else are provided for the inmates in an environment of love and care.

A dedicated and selfless staff led by Director, Rev. Fr. Prassanna Christopher care for the residents of the homes.

The main Marcsri home is at No. 26, St. Sebastians Road, Katukurunda, Kalutara. It was the home of Rita Perera. Currently, the Marcsri main home cares for 64 elders and differently-abled children.

The St. Theresa’s Home was started on October 1, 1990 for differently-abled young women. Among the other Marcsri homes are the Cardinal Cooray Home, the Mama Papa Home, the Marco Home and the Mendis Home.

The Marco Home at Kalamulla and St. Martin’s Home at Kotugoda, Ja-Ela are for the differently-abled females. St. Mary’s, Payagala, St. Albert’s, Beruwala and St. Ann’s, Wadduwa are for male and female elders.

The Mama, Papa Home at Kalamulla which is for the differently-abled children caters for 32 children with mental and physical impairments. Many of them are cot ridden. The Mendis and the Cardinal Cooray Homes are for elderly males.
