Heavy rains to be expected in various places across Sri Lanka

According to the Meteorological department, the well-marked low pressure area over the southeast bay of Bengal is likely to move west north-westwards towards the eastern coast of Sri Lanka on 01 February.

Such a movement will affect the islands weather, resulting in heavy rains from today evening. Showers or thundershowers is expected occur in Northern, Eastern, Uva, North-Central and Central provinces. Heavy rainfall of about 150mm is likely to be experienced in some places.

Meteorological Department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
