Around 300 special investigators have been deployed countrywide by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to nab those who tap electricity illegally.

The Government raked in Rs. 75 million from illegal connections last year.  Nearly 1,114 raids were conducted on tapping electricity metres and 188 raids on hooks last year, Administrative Officer of the Kurunegala CEB District Regional Engineer’s office M. Karunarathne told the Sunday Observer.

He called upon consumers to use electricity more sparingly and not to tap electricity illegally since the country is now faced with a grave economic crisis.
