The Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) installed floodlights to their Indoor practice nets on Wednesday night with former Sri Lanka cricket captain and ICC Chief Match referee Ranjan Madugalle doing the honours by declaring open it at Wijerama Mawatha in Colombo 7.

In his speech Madugalle revealed how he used to play at the MCA ground during his young days while he resided in close proximity to the venue.

As the years went by the MCA began developing the ground to be used for their inter-firm encounters and Madugalle used to be there to play with his friends.

Then came the days when the ground was further developed and outsiders were not permitted by the MCA.

“After 40 years, MCA gets a new look with more facilities and it’s nice to see the massive development,” declared Madugalle.

“Today I have come here again but this time to open the indoor stadium with floodlights and see a portrait of mine installed on the wall of the MCA,” said Madugalle in lighter vain.

He still remains one of the most active iconic personalities in cricket.

MCA president Nalin Wickramasinghe said their committee works hard to uplift the structures at the ground, pavilion and the MCA Academy.

The present and former MCA officials and representatives of the Mercantile firms were present on this occasion. (TBR)
