The Government is set to pay all the public servants’ salaries on time, State Minister of Finance Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
He said that the Government has given priority to pay the salaries of public servants this week.
Dr. Siyambalapitiya said the next step would be to settle payments for the chemical fertiliser purchases the following week.
“The Government is taking steps to pay the Rs. 3,500 million owed for chemical fertiliser purchases made during the Maha season. We have already settled a Rs 2,200 million payment due for organic fertiliser purchases,” he said.
He said the Government will have settled all outstanding bills for fertiliser purchases by the end of the first week of March.
“We will ensure that farmers across the country get their fertiliser supplies. There will be no fertiliser scarcity in the coming Yala season,” he said.
