Expect a thriller at Air Force-Police knock-out match

26 February, 2023

A thriller is expected when Air Force SC and Police SC clash in their Nippon Paint Clifford Cup knock out rugby championship quarter final match at the Race Course International Stadium today at 4.00 pm.

The forte of both teams has been their power-packed forwards. The Police ‘Eight’ will have to give off their best in the loose and secure ball position if they have to pull this game through as the Airmen with their burly set of forwards are capable of turning tables spearheaded by their giant Number Eight Saraka Weralla.

The Air Force back division is strong with the halves combination of Nuwan Perera and captain Kaushal Manupriya hitting it off smoothly in the ongoing season. Police SC has been bolstered by the presence of their halves combination of Shane Hopwood and fly half Yohan Peiris who have played a key role in their success with their powerful play ably supported by their hard running three-quarter line.

Havies- Army

In the other quarter final a closely fought out battle can be expected between Havelocks Sports Club and Army Sports Club at Longden Place today at 4.00pm.

Army SC are packed with some outstanding players but they must get their act together if they are to pull off a win against a wounded Havies and to achieve that several of their experienced players will have to give off their best under their veteran coach Ronny Ibrahim.

Havelocks now at a rebuilding stage after a poor showing in the concluded League with have to completely buckle up under coach Sanath Martis assisted by experienced national player Lakala Perera.
