Gold prices up in Sri Lanka

“There has been an increase in gold prices in Sri Lanka between Rs.10,000 and Rs.15,000 due to the price increases at the gold auction in the world market. The market leaders said that due to the strengthening of the Sri Lankan Rupee against the US Dollar, the price of gold has decreased by Rs.20,000 to Rs.30,000.

Sri Lanka jewellery Traders Association President Wije Kumar said there was an increase in the amount of dollars and Sterling pounds paid for a pound of gold at the Gold auction in London.

“Generally the price for one pound of gold went up to Rs.145,000 from Rs.135,000 yesterday (10).With the strengthening of the rupee, the value of one pound of 24 carat gold decreased from Rs.195,000 to Rs.115,000.The price of gold is changing day by day based on the demand for it in the world gold auction.
