Fuel demand declines in January

Fuel sales in January had dropped rapidly compared to last year, according to the Ministry of Power and Energy. Compared to January 2022, the sale of auto diesel had decreased by 50 per cent, petrol by 30 cent and kerosene sales by 70 cent in January this year.

A total of 199,032 metric tons of diesel was sold in January 2022 and the amount was 93,106 in January 2023. A total of 6,544 metric tons of Super diesel was sold in January last year compared to 1,882 metric tons this year.

Kerosene recorded sales of 19,212 metric tons in January last year, but it recorded only 4,757 metric tons in January this year.

Around 10,100 metric tons of Octane 95 petrol was sold in January 2022, compared to just 2,087 metric tons this year and 110,491 metric tons of Octane 92 petrol was sold in January last year compared to the 79,510 metric tons in January this year.
