The Fort police took in for questioning the parents who had abandoned their baby in a Batticaloa-bound express train on Friday night.
The father (27) was arrested in Kosmodara yesterday. The Fort police arrested the mother (26) in Bandarawela on Friday night.
The baby was two weeks old when passengers and railway security guards found it abandoned in one of the train’s restrooms on Friday around 7 pm.
Fort police took them in for questioning on a tip-off from a passenger who had seen the couple.
Police had also located their identity cards from a house in Piliyandala. “We went in search of them after their addresses were found on the identity cards,” a Fort police official said. Police investigations are continuing.
