Two suspects arrested for foreign job scams

The investigation officers of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau have arrested two people for fraudulently taking money from people stating that they can provide foreign jobs.

A person from Pallama area was arrested for fraudulently taking moneyinreturn for providing jobs in Kuwait state was arrested recently (15 March) in Maradana area.

The concerned suspect had received an amount of Rs.450,000 from a female resident of Gampola area in return for getting her a job in Kuwait. The woman has complained to the bureau on 15.03.2023 as the job was not given as promised. The suspect has been arrested by the investigating officers who acted immediately on the complaint.

The arrested suspect was produced before the Gampola Magistrate's Court on the same day, and the Magistrate has set the bail at Rs. 500,000surety bond and Rs. 10,000 cash bond. The court also imposed a travel ban on the suspect. The magistrate ordered the passport of the suspect to be handed over to court custody. The suspect was also ordered to appear before the investigation department of the bureau on last Monday of every month. The case is scheduled to be taken up again on 09 May 2023.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint made to the Foreign Employment Bureau that an individual had charged money from a personin return for a job in the state of Oman. The suspectwho is a resident of Piliyandala area, was arrested by the investigation officers of the burea.

The suspect was brought to the bureau on 09.03.2023 to investigate the relevant complaint, and the arrest was made there. During the questioning of the suspect, it has been admitted that he has received an amount of Rs. 555,000 from the complainant for providing this job opportunity.
