Wesley save face in drawn match against Bens

A determined partnership of 99 runs for the sixth wicket saw Wesley College force a draw in their cricket encounter against St. Benedict’s College for the Rev. Bro. James Cartman Cup played at the P. Sara Oval yesterday.

Wesley where shot out for 185 runs in their first innings and asked to follow on with a deficit of 113 runs. Uvin Perera batted best to score 71 runs and Anuga Pahansara made a useful 40 runs.

In their second innings Wesley started quite poorly losing wickets at regular intervals to be 108 runs for five wickets at one stage.

It was then that Rukshan Tharanga joined Disula Yapa who batted sensibly to put on a match saving partnership of 99 runs for the sixth wicket.

After their departure two wickets fell in the first of the mandatory overs and thereafter it was Jathon Weiman who stayed on until the match was called off with the light fading and Wesley had a lead of 147 runs. Only 12 of the mandatory overs were bowled. (TBR)
