Proposal to conduct law exams in English defeated in Parliament

21 March, 2023

The proposal to conduct Sri Lanka Law college exams only in the English language was defeated by a vote in Parliament today (21 March).

There were 113 votes against and only 1 vote in favour of the proposal. According to a Tweet by the Parliament A poll was held under ‘The Council of Legal Education Ordinance (Chapter 276)’ and it “received 1 vote for and 113 against.” The most likely effect of this is that the SLLC exams will continue to be held in all three languages as before.
