26 March, 2023

Seneth Sesan had superb bowling fugues of 5 for 30 as Richmond College recorded a 28 runs win over Mahinda College in their 35th annual limited overs cricket encounter for the RCU Centenary Cup at the Galle International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

With this win Richmond continue to lead the series with 21wins while Mahinda has 10 victories.

It was a fine team effort by Richmond led by Tharinda Nirmal as they scored 218 for 9 wickets in their 50 overs and Mahinda chasing the target were all out for190 with five balls to spare as off spinner Seneth Sesan was in the forefront of the proceedings.

Sesan was not part of the team that played in the two-day Battle of the Lovers match and was brought in as a replacement for their key spinner Malsha Tharupathi who is away in Abu Dhabi with the Sri Lanka Under-19 team.

Richmond coach Lakmal de Silva made the correct call on Seneth as he ended with match-winning figures.

Richmond skipper Tharinda Nirmal scored 42 in 80 balls with three fours while openers Chehan Subasinghe ((34) and Bhanuka Manohara (38) made useful contributions.

Mahinda skipper Dhanuja Induwara scored 40 with three fours and a six while Tharusha Dilshan 41in 56 balls but that was not enough to reach their target.
