First group of Sri Lankans evacuated from Sudan

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry PC has stated that the first group of Sri Lankans have been successfully evacuate from Sudan. The evacuation process was done with the assistance with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Minister extended his gratitude to the Saudi Arabia for the support provided.

The group of 13 Sri Lankans have been received by the Acting Consulate General in Jeddah upon their disembarking at Jeddah.

Yesterday (25 April) Minister stated via a Twitter message that the steps were being taken to evacuate the Sri Lankans and by today 13 Sri Lankans have been evacuated. According to the Minister other will also be evacuated soon with the support of Saudi Arabia or India.

The violence situation in Sudan is due to clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Force (RPF) paramilitary group which started in the month of April (15).Violence has completely taken over the Sudan’s capital Khartoum resulting in the shutdown of the Sudanese main airport as well. Sudanese citizens have also fled the capital.
