Nineteen Sri Lankans evacuated from Sudan

As the conflict in Sudan rages on, Sri Lankan nationals have been caught in the crossfire, with some being stranded in the country as a result of the fighting. However, as of Saturday, 19 Sri Lankans had been evacuated from Sudan, with the first batch of 13 arriving in Colombo this weekend.

The Government has evacuate dits citizens from the volatile situation, with assistance from the Saudi government and other countries. The second batch of six Sri Lankans have arrived at the Jeddah King Faisal Naval base. They were received by Sri Lanka’s Acting Consul General in Jeddah.

The Sri Lankan Embassies in Jeddah and Cairo are working closely to ensure the safe evacuation of other Sri Lankans who are still in Sudan.

The conflict in Sudan has been particularly intense in the capital Khartoum, where rival military factions have been battling for control of the country. The violence has also spread to other parts of the country, causing widespread disruption and displacement. As a result, thousands of foreigners, including diplomats and aid workers, have been stranded in Sudan, with many countries closing their embassies and racing to evacuate their nationals.

The Government has been coordinating with other countries and its missions in Jeddah and Cairo to evacuate its citizens from Sudan. The situation in Sudan is complex and fluid, with no clear resolution in sight. However, the Government is monitoring the situation closely and is taking steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.

The Sri Lanka Embassy in Cairo and the Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka in Khartoum are also available to provide assistance to Sri Lankans who are still in Sudan and may need help.
