German Lanka project to impart renewable energy technology to youth

The German-Lanka Institute of Climate Technologies plans to set up a climate technology training institute in Sri Lanka shortly. This was discussed in detail with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena when a team from the proposed Institution, headed by Germany’s SunFarming Group AG Chairman, Peter Schrum. Schrum explained to the Prime Minister that the German-Lanka Institute of Climate Technologies is a capacity builder and a technology-transfer-platform for sustainable climate-friendly technologies with the focus on renewable energy, modern agriculture, and electric mobility.

The project is designed for comprehensive skills development programs by providing theoretical and practical knowledge, industrial training, and also research and development exposure all within the proposed project facility.The Prime Minister said Sri Lanka gives top priority to renewable energy generation, considering the environmental benefits. He assured the government support to such projects to train Sri Lankan youths on renewable energy technology. He also welcomed the proposal to set up large scale solar energy center in which various crops could be grown in green houses with solar panel roofing.

The German team will have further discussions with the Presidential Secretariat and the Environment Minister.
