Over 200,000 people visited the Peradeniya University on Saturday after the University administration decided to declare Saturday July 1 as an open day and provided an opportunity for the public to see the university to coincide with its 80th anniversary.
This is the first time in history that a local university had announced an open day.
The public was also provided an opportunity to view a large number of rare books kept at the library of the Peradeniya University.
In addition rare paintings and other items at the university premises were also on public display.
