Showers Expected in Several Provinces of Sri Lanka

24 July, 2023

The Meteorological Department has announced that various parts of Sri Lanka can expect spells of showers and thundershowers within the days.

The Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, along with the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara, are likely to experience spells of showers. The residents of these regions are advised to be prepared for rainy weather conditions.

In the Northern Province, a few showers are expected to occur, although the overall rainfall may not be as intense as in the aforementioned areas.

Moreover, during the evening or night, there is a possibility of showers or thundershowers in Ampara and Batticaloa districts. The people in these regions are urged to take necessary precautions during the potentially inclement weather.

It's important to note that fairly strong winds, with speeds reaching about 40 kmph, may be experienced at times in specific regions. These include the western slopes of the central hills, Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as Monaragala, Hambantota, and Trincomalee districts. Residents in these areas should take necessary measures to secure outdoor belongings and stay alert to any weather-related advisories.
