Two killed, two serious in Ududumbara car plunge

Two persons including a Russian national were killed after a car plunged off a cliff at Ududumbara, Pusse-Ela bend on the Kandy-Meemure road, Saturday, Police said.

Police said that a 28 year old Russian man and 51-year-old Sri Lankan woman, a resident of Wattegama, Kandy had died.

Two other people who were seriously injured in the accident have been admitted to Meda Mahanuwara Hospital and later transferred to Kandy National Hospital in a critical condition.

The deceased are Euro Lahoor (28) and Malani Chandralatha (51), a resident of Wattegama Meegamwatta. Police investigations have revealed that the deceased woman is the warden of an Elder’s Home in Katugastota.

According to the police, among the people injured are the husband of the deceased woman and the owner of the car who is a friend of the couple. The deceased Russian national who had come to Sri Lanka about one month back is said to be a friend of the owner of the vehicle.

The cause of the accident has not yet been revealed and the Ududumbara Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
