Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said measures have already been taken to recruit 5,450 graduates as teachers.
Minister Premajayantha said the Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 5,450 graduates for national and provincial schools according to the Teacher Service Ordinance. Provincial teachers are recruited for main subjects like Science, Technology, English and Foreign languages by the provinces in the future.
The Minister also mentioned that National School teachers are recruited by the Education Ministry.
The Minister expressed these views while participating in a programme to inform Principals on the development of education quality in the Badulla district.
The Minister said that the proposal to merge all the Colleges of Education into a university in the future has also been presented in the form of a concept paper.
When asked whether there will be a delay in distributing student uniform materials, the minister responded that all arrangements have been made to handover school uniforms and textbooks to the students on scheduled dates in 2024 as well.
