Close call for Ladies against Bishop’s girls

Ladies College had to fight every inch of the way to beat Bishop’s College 1-0 in their under-17 annual hockey encounter played on Saturday (23) at Police Park, Bambalapitiya.

The winning goal was scored by Amanni Imran in the 25th minute of the first half with the help of their attack line. The under-19 encounter that followed ended in a scoreless draw.

Special Awards in the under-17 category were taken away by Taliya de Fonseka from Ladies College who was adjudged as the best offensive player, Maika Tennakoon from Bishop’s College who was adjudged as the best defensive player and Pranali Britto from Ladies College who was picked as the best goalkeeper.

The series tally from 2005 after 18 encounters now stands at nine in favour of Ladies College and six for Bishop’s College.

In the years 2010, 2014 and 2022, they were declared as joint winners. The 2020 encounter was not played.
