Rev. Fr. Camillus Fernando Ph.D. former Rector of St. Nicholas International College, Palawatte, has been appointed as the new Rector of Benedict XVI Catholic Institute (BCI) Campus, Negombo.
Studying as an undergrad at the Urbanian University Rome, he obtained his doctorate in the Science of Education in 2004.
Prior to his departure to Rome, he had received his Master’s Degree MSSC and the Postgraduate Diploma from the University of Kelaniya.
He also obtained the B.Th. and B.Ph. Degrees from the Urbanian University, Rome.
Fr. Camillus was the former Dean of Philosophy at the National Seminary, Kandy, the former Rector of Holy Cross College, Kalutara, St. Aloysius Minor Seminary, Colombo, and at the time of his new appointment as Vice-Chancellor and Rector of the BCI.
He was serving as the Rector of St. Nicholas’ International College, Palawatta. He was a member of the Academic Staff of St. Peter’s College, Colombo, and also served as the Parish Priest of Dalugama, Thalangama, and Maligawatta.
Rev. Fr. Camillus has written five books. They are Science of Education, A Thomistic Approach to Catholic Education, Office of Evangelisation in English, and two books in Sinhala. He was the Director of the Colombo Catholic Press and Editor of both the Messenger, the Catholic Weekly of Sri Lanka, Ganartha Pradeepaya, and the Lama Pradeepaya and simultaneously served as the Media Spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Colombo.
Fr. Camillus Fernando has worked as the Executive Secretary of the Federation of the Asian Bishops Conference (FABC) for the Evangelisation.
