Army finished on top of the medals table with 403 medals followed by Air Force with 248 medals and Navy finished at the bottom with 224 medals at the 12th Defence Services Games 2023 that concluded at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on November 24.
The event lasted months of competitive sports where servicemen and women from the tri-forces showcased their talents across 39 competitive events.
The 403 medals won by Army were made up of 147 gold, 144 silver and 112 bronze.
Air Force won 77 gold medals, 71 silver and 100 bronze medals to sum up 248 medals while Navy won 69 gold medals, 86 silver and 69 bronze medals for a tally of 224.
Approximately 3000 athletes participated, aiming to showcase their prowess during the events. The selected individuals will undergo specialized training facilitated by the Defence Services Sports Council, integrating them into the national sports squads.
Currently, a significant portion of athletes in the national youth squad arise from the tri-forces, highlighting the pivotal role of the Defence Service Games as a platform for their success.
