Old Dharmapalians and Old Dharmasokians maintained an unbeaten record with two victories each in the first round of the 22nd Col Henry Steel Olcott tournament at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
Old Dharmapalians played two matches of the first round winning both in a six overs per side game limited to four balls an over as gloomy weather in Kandy interrupted the tournament yesterday.
Old Anandian Arjuna Ranatunga was in action opening the batting and retired hurt scoring three runs while Sanjaya Attanayake scored 18 and Thilina Kandambi hit an unbeaten 25 with four sixes to make the highest total of the day 69.
Old Rahula in reply made 57 for 2 wickets in six overs and Old Anandians won after losing their first game against Old Mahandians.
Old Maliyadevan Asela Patabendi hit the highest individual score of 31 retired with a four and three sixes to beat Old Dharmarajans by eight wickets.
Aruna Meemanage of Old Dharmapalians was the most successful batter of the day aggregating 45 in two games while Tharanga Soyza of Old Dharmasokians took five wickets in two matches as the most successful bowler. He missed a hat-trick against Old Mahindians.
To championship will conclude today.
The mark the tournament eight renowned sportsmen, one each from Dharmasoka, Dharmapala, Rahula, Mahinda, Maliyadeva, Ananda, Nalanda and Dharmaraja were felicitated at the Grand Kandyan Hotel while Arjuna Ranatunga was the Chief Guest at the ceremony organised by the Henry Steel Olcott Cricket Foundation and Old Rajans Cricket Foundation.
