Junior netball players in line for individual sponsorships

Junior netballers are in line to gain by way of sponsorship from the sponsors ICL Brands at the Eva All Island Open Netball Tournament that will be held on January 13 and 14 at the Air Force ground Colombo 2.

A panel of judges will select the best three players from each of the three divisions and support them with materials that will be needed in their education and progress in the form of books, bags, stationeries and other items that are used to enhance their studies.

Organisers say a carnival atmosphere will prevail during the two days of the high profile tournament organized by the Western Province Netball Association with Sandya Rajapakse as their president.

The tournament is open to all clubs, mercantile firms, government institutions, banks, universities and schools both local and international sponsored by ICL Brands for the 27th successive year.

Anil de Silva the Group Director of Capital Maharaja said that they are always looking forward to support all sports activities and education in the country.

“The tournament will be used to pick the most talented players by the national selectors. These talented players will be noted for future selection to the Sri Lanka team,” said Sandya Rajapakse.

The tournament will be played in four divisions. The A division will be for Open women and men, B division for Open women only and the Schools division will be for players under-15 (born on or after 1/1/2009) under-17 (born on or after 1/1/2007) and under-19 (born on or after 1/1/2005). There will also be a Veterans division for women over 40 years.

Only 12 players and three officials could be registered. No player can perform in more than one team and no entry fees will be charged from school teams.

Entries close on January 5 with the Secretary, Soraya Fajudeen (076-9122778). Entry forms could be collected from the Tournament Secretary Nimalika Thushanthi of 46/20/1, Gemunu Road, Wattala (076 1717286) or the Secretary Soraya Fajudeen.

The Draw will be held on January 10 at the Sports School, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7 at 5 pm.
