RMS Pushpakumara of Western Province was the winner in the men’s category while HMCS Herath from Central Province won the women’s event in the Cross Country race held in conjunction with the 48th National Sports Festival at the Nuwara Eliya Golf course yesterday.
Pushpakumara finished the 10 kilometre race in a time of 34 minutes and 04 seconds which was also almost the same time achieved by V. Vakshan who finished in second place.

Women’s runner Herath from Central Province finished first in the women’s race in a time of 39 minutes 30 seconds. WAM Wijesuriya finished a close second in a time of 39 minutes and 32 seconds while the third placed runner was Nimesha Nidarshani who finished in a time of 39 minutes and 50 seconds.
The Cross Country race was held after a lapse of four years and had 79 athletes run in the men’s category while 47 athletes contested the women’s category. (TBR)
