Outgoing Turkish Ambassador meets Defence Secretary

The Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Sri Lanka, R. Demet Şekercioğlu, paid a farewell call on the Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne at the Defence Ministry in Sri Jayewardenepura, Kotte on Friday.

General Gunaratne welcomed Şekercioğlu and had a friendly interaction with her. He appreciated her services during her tenure in the Island. The outgoing Turkish envoy also conveyed her gratitude for the support and cooperation extended during her tenure here while emphasising the strides made in bilateral relations.

Ambassador Şekercioğlu joined the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1995 and she took over the appointment as Türkiye’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka on January 7, 2020.

The Defence Secretary presented a souvenir to the outgoing envoy as a token of appreciation. Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Defence Major General Dhammika Welagedara was also present.
