Peterite pups dominate Thomian rugby Carnival

Budding rugby players from St. Peter’s College dominated by winning the under-16 and 14 Cup events at the Rugby Carnival for junior rugby players organized by St. Thomas’ Preparatory School Colpetty on June 22 at the CR&FC ground Longdon Place.

An organizing committee official told the Sunday Observer that the event showcased the country’s up-and-coming rugby talent with all leading schools fielding teams along with schools that have taken to the sport recently displaying good basic skills.

In the under-16 final St. Peter’s team beat Prince of Wales 10-0 while in the under-14 final St. Peter’s beat St. Thomas’ Prep 10-5 to take the Cup.

Sri Sumangala came up with a surprising display to win the under-16 Plate event when they beat St. Thomas’ Prep narrowly 12-10 in the final.

St. Anthony’s College Kandy took the under-14 Plate when they beat Carey 15-10 in the final.

The under-16 Bowl was clinched by CMS Sri Jayawardenapura College Kotte when they beat St. Peter’s 5-0 while the under-14 Bowl was won by Royal College who beat Sri Sumangala 15-0.

There was keen interest and enthusiasm displayed by all players at this rugby event that was held in a carnival atmosphere. Parents, well-wishers and supporters too showed keen interest as they witnessed some exciting rugby throughout the day.

Royal Panadura beat St. Peter’s 5-0
St. Anthony’s beat St. Peter’s 10-5
AGOAL Rugby Academy beat Royal Panadura 10-0
