In a rare achievement of medal winning feats, athletes at the David Peiris Group bagged as many as 24 medals competing against over 1200 athletes from 22 countries at an International Masters Track and Field Championships 2024 held in Singapore.
The medals included 12 Gold and Silver and they were part of a 32 member Sri Lankan contingent that booked their passages based on performances at the Mercantile Athletic Meet.
Among the medal winners of the David Pieris Group (DPG) team were Gayesha Dissanayake (4 Gold medals – Hammer Throw, Triple Jump, 100×4, 400×4, 1 Silver medal – Long Jump), Gayani Wasana (4 Gold medals – 100M, 400M Hurdles, 100×4, 400×4), Sisuru Fernando (3 Gold medals – High Jump, Long Jump, 400M Hurdles), Mihirani Perera (3 Gold medals – Long Jump, 400M Hurdles, 100×4, 1 Silver medal – Hammer Throw), Kalpani Fernando (1 Gold medal – 400×4, 1 Silver medal – Triple Jump, 1 Bronze medal – High Jump), Damith Madushan (1 Gold medal – 800M, 1 Silver medal – 1500M), Kasun Shyamal (3 Silver medals – 400M Hurdles, 100×4, 400×4) and Malshi Fernando (2 Silver medals – 100M, 200M).
Waruna Udawatte also from DPG represented the Mercantile Athletic Federation as team manager and won two Silver medals (4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay) and two Bronze medals (110m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles).
In committing to sports, DPG field teams at mercantile cricket, athletics, volleyball, hockey, basketball, netball, swimming and badminton.
