A series of religious ceremonies were held to mark the completion of four decades of Ven. Pallegama Vijitha Thera’s monastic career under the theme “Vijitabhinandana Kruthaguna pooja”.
The Vijitabhinandana Krutaguna pooja was held on the occasion of the completion of four decades of the monastic life of Ven. Pallegama Vijitha Thera, who is the Head of New Delhi Sri Lanka Pilgrimage Centre and Rajagahanuwara Veluwana Lankaramaya, last Sunday (July 7) at Pallegama Khettarama Maha Viharaya.
Parallel to the ceremonies of Ven. Vijitha Thera, who is known as “The bhikkhu of the Rajagahanuwara Temple who gives the most delicious cup of Sri Lankan tea in India” and “The Thera who teaches how to travel in New Delhi without falling into difficulties’’, a special Patra pooja was held for a thousand Samanera bhikkhus studying at the Pirivens in Morawak Korale.
On this day, a luncheon was provided for 4,000 persons, who nurtured the Thera’s monastic life. Two thousand devotee families, who took care of the Thera also provided by donating alms as a mark of gratitude.
The Pallegama Khettarama Viharaya, which was built a century ago by philanthropist A.A.W. Muhandiram of Morawak Korale, is in a dilapidated state due to repairs.
Therefore, a development task force will be formed for the restoration of the temple including the Dharma Salawa. The restoration work will be completed within a year.
